Home modifications are changes made to a home to improve a person's independence, safety and comfort. Modifications are often referred to as either major or minor modifications, depending on the complexity involved. Simple, non-structural changes such as installing grab rails, are classed as minor modifications. However, if the modification impacts the structure of the home and must adhere to codes and regulations, it is typically classed as a major modification.
